The Campaign for Common Sense

"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, it expects what never was and never will be... The People cannot be safe without information. When the press is free, and every man is able to read, all is safe."

Thomas Jefferson

John Phillips announces run for United States Senate in Massachusetts

Our nation faces the most severve crisis in the short history of our Republic.  The media in their rose colored glasses tell us that the worst is over.  Congress continues to suggest that the glass is half full.  The truth is that the glass fell off the table long ago and is about to shatter into many pieces for the average American Family whose individual obligation towards financing our monsterous Federal Debt is more than $60,000 by conservative estimates.

In 1959 in his farewell address to the nation Dwight D. Eisenhower, himself a military man, warned his fellow Americans that the Military Industrail Complex threatened our democratic way of life.  Twelve day after the”Bay of Pigs Invasion” in April 1961, John F. Kennedy warned newpaper publishers that:

Today no war has been declared--and however fierce the struggle may be, it may never be declared in the traditional fashion. Our way of life is under attack. Those who make themselves our enemy are advancing around the globe. The survival of our friends is in danger. And yet no war has been declared, no borders have been crossed by marching troops, no missiles have been fired.

If the press is awaiting a declaration of war before it imposes the self-discipline of combat conditions, then I can only say that no war ever posed a greater threat to our security. If you are awaiting a finding of "clear and present danger," then I can only say that the danger has never been more clear and its presence has never been more imminent.

It requires a change in outlook, a change in tactics, a change in missions--by the government, by the people, by every businessman or labor leader, and by every newspaper. For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence--on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations.

Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried, not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed. It conducts the Cold War, in short, with a war-time discipline no democracy would ever hope or wish to match.

A short time later JFK stated that the CIA should be broken into a 1000 pieces.  When the shots heard round the world rang out that morning on November 22, 1962 in Dallas, Texas, American fell into a state of shock.  To this day few people realize that on that day in Dallas, the battle for democratic control of our government was lost.  The Assasination of JFK was the blood of the covenant between corrupt government officials and the Military Industrial Complex.

In 1968 from the minute that Robert Kennedy entered the race, he became the man to beat.  Kennedy knew that revolutionary change was necessary to cure the cancer that had grown in Washington since the assassination of his brother.  The public began to unite behind RFK as the man who could realize the dreams of his brother.  Kennedy knew that the power of the Presidency would not only provide the vehicle for dismantling the Military Industrial complexes strong hold over the United States government, but more importantly it was the only way he could find out who was behind the cold blooded murder of his brother.  Robert Kennedy was a threat.

Within 5 minutes of his victory speech having won the California primary assuring him of the nomination, Robert Kennedy was gunned down in cold blood just like his brother before him, and by the same people.  The nation mourned as the 2cd great leader of the Anti-War movement was killed, Martin Luther King having suffered a similar fate only a few months before.  Nixon rode to victory and continued the policies that led to the deaths of countless US soldiers and more than a million Vietnamese.  As Nixon himself mourned the loss of life, I am sure he sought spiritual comfort in his spiritual Guru Billy Graham who reassured Nixon that they were mostly only Buddhists.

The Military Industrail Complex is the greatest threat our nation has ever faced.  To break the Military Industrail Complex into a 1000 pieces is the only way that our Nation will be able to recover it financial health.  49 years ago Massachusetts and the nation send JFK to Washington on a mission of hope:  A mission of peace through progress.  When that dream was shattered twice in 6 short years, the late Senator Edward Kennedy picked up the pieces and began his historic career that sought to realize the dreams and visions of his brothers.

As a Historian of Science I have always thought that metaphors are a powerful vechicle for understanding complex situtation.  Since November of 1962, Congress has slowly been consumed by a slow moving cancer.  When the market crashed in September of 2008, it became clear that the cancer could destroy the middle class.  To date in Congress and especially in the United States Senate race in Massachusetts, the solutions being proposed amount to putting band aids on cancer.  The only way that working Americans are going to survive is by radical reforms in Washington that restores the democratic process and empowers working everyday Americans.

I encorage you to join my “Campaign for Common Sense”:

Read, Watch, Learn and Vote.

My platform includes radical reforms for the military, banking, health care, drug policy, and more.  The program promises to balance the budget before 2012, and pay off the National Debt by 2020.  I ask you to examine my proposals and then compare them to my opponent’s positions on the issues.  Band-Aids will not cure cancer, we need radical reform.

On January 19, 2010 I ask you to write in or place a sticker on your ballot for John Phillips for United States Seante.  Vote for real change you can believe in.  Send a message to the world that the people in Massachusetts are ready to send our country on a new course:  a course of peace and properity for hard working American families.

There is no better example of how this cancerous growth in Washington serves the interests of lobbies instead of the people than in our current debate on health care.  Over 360,000 Americans have died from lack of health care coverage since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Who are the terrorists?

As a candidate for US Senate it is not my job or desire to tell all the history that already fills rows on library shelfs, but to set forth a path for dismantling the Military Industrial Complex, and returning government by the people and for the people:  Not buy the lobbies, for the Corporate State.  For the brave of heart I have included over a 1000 pages of documentation and many hours of video about the heart and soul of the military industrail complex and the history of the problems that faced out nation.  How do we dismantle the “Military Industrial Complex” and place it in the museum of history where it rightfully belongs.    How do we change swords into ploughshares, and usher in the era of perpetual peace?

I ask voters to join my:

Campaign for Common Sense               Read, Learn and then Vote

I encourage you to read my program for restoring the Republic and taking control of our nation's destiny.  I am certain you will discover is you Read, Learn and Vote that my position on the issues are radically different from those of my opponents.   Below is a short summary of this plan.  If you click the title or the icon bar it will bering you to a full description of this program, and the histroical docuementation for why these changes are absolutely necessary for the survival of the Republic.

1.  Investigate, Prosecute, Fine, Imprison:

There has been no more contenious debate during the the Obama adminstration than the prosecution of individual involved in the Violation of the Genevea conventions in the tortue of individuals invovled in the war on terrorism.  The United States is first and foremost a nation founded on the priniciple of law, and futher more that all people are equal in the face of the the land.

Let me state that Tortue is not the issue or wiretapping of non-suspecting American citizens in the violation of the contstituion, the stealing on an election in 2000 and 2004, the white wash of the 9/11 false flag terrorist attacks, the illegal invaison of Iraq resulting in by some estimate the death of over 1,000,000 innocent Iraqis.  It is the sum total of these acts!  The synergism of the parts is greater than the individual parts.  The sum total of these events Constitutes Treason as defined by US Law as:

 Treason

NOUN: Violation of allegiance toward one's country or sovereign, especially the betrayal of one's country by waging war against it or by consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies. A betrayal of trust or confidence.

When anyone steps over the treshold and moves from a private citizen to a representative of the people, they take a foraml oath to uphold the constituition and represent the interest of its citizens.   Treason is considered such a serious crime that failure to prosecute it results in a jail sentence of up to 20 years.

Dick Cheney and many of his commrades are clearly guilty of treason.  Anyone who has served in Congress duirng the Bush Adminstration after 9/11 is guilty of treason for not investigating  what was clearly a series of actions that constituted treason.

2.  The American Free Speech Act

An economic stimulus plan to create jobs but more importantly to give America's access to education and information.  This program would be a national program to provide fiber optic cable to every house in the United States at a reasonable cost by breaking up the current monopoly in place.

3. Bank Reform:

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. Already they have raised up a moneyed aristocracy that has set the Government at defiance. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people to whom it properly belongs.

Thomas Jefferson

4.  Military Reduction Act:

Albert Einstein:  Time Magazines “Man of the Century” said it best “Man can not simultaneously prepare for both war and peace.”  When a nation dedicates greateer and greater resources to military expenditure,  gun fire and the innocent murder of civilians is sure to follow.  Perhaps the most troubling aspect of our current crisis is that the military does not realize that a nation without a solid economic foundation is doomed to failure.  Without a better long term economic plan, the US is slowly marching its troops off a cliff.  Will military leaders realize this before it is too late?

The next budget shall reduce Defense spending by 20%.  For each of the following 9 years the defense budget shall be reduced by an additional 10%.  This type of approach can not be reached without a substanial international agreement to reduce the sale of weapons and reach some standard agreement about how to handle development in the 3rd world countires that does not link industraial development with a corresponidng increase in militrary expenditures.

Total Budgetary spending saved:

Establishment of the Office of Peace as suggested by Dennis Kitnitch as a cabinet postion in the Executive Branch.  What might an Executive Office planning for a century of peace look like? I will leave the details to the Obama adminstration.

In the meantime the military budget must be substanial reduced to if we are ever going to meet our debt obligations to ourshelves and our children.

5.    Health Care

Medicine for a profit is a violation of the Hippocratic oath.  It is estimated that over 360,000 Americans have died from lack of heatlh coverage since the September 11, 2001 terrorists attacks.

Who are the real terrorists?

6.   End the War on Drugs, restore the Constitution.

Ending the war on drugs could save the United States over $280 Billlion dollars per year.  Could Massachusetts use an additional $5 Billion dollars per year.

7.  A Full Employment Economy

In 1942 Mao Tse-Tung had just completed the longest retreat in military history.  Interestingly enough at this time the United States reached out to Mao and asked for his help in fighting the Janpanese who had invaded China during WWII.

A short time later Mao wrote an essay in which he discussed what he called the Dialectical nature of freedom;  That for a man to be truely free he must have shelter over his head, food in his belly, and the freedom to speak his mind and participate in governing process.   He later expanded this idea to say that without work or a job to produce money, man could never be free in the modern world.  He called this "New Democracy".

Five Simple Principles:

     1) all people eat

     2) all people with housing

     3) all poeople with free speech and expression of their cultural heritage.

     4)  all people with medical care

     5)  all people with access to employment

Perhaps the most important part of the mis-information campaign orchestrated by the military industrail complex againt the citizens of the United States is in trying to convinve the public that Capitalism and Imperailism were concepts near and dear to the founding fathers hearts.

Have you ever been to a Free Market?

The United States in 1992 produced over $17,000,000,000,000 worth of goods and services.  This amounts to $68,000 for every man, women and child in the United States or $ 272,000 for a family of four. What is holding us back ?  Addiction to Money has caused more harm to the average American Family than any other addiction known to man.
